About the Cover Artist: Margrit Mason
At the age of 16 while living in Germany, Margrit began practicing photography. After getting married and having children, she and her family relocated to the United States, moving around often before settling into Massachusetts, near her husband’s last military assignment at Hanscom Air Force Base. Margrit suffered from migraines primarily during menopause. Since that time, they have waned. Margrit found painting to be relaxing. She rendered the painting found on this issue’s cover from a photograph taken at Cape Cod, Massachusetts. In addition to being an award-winning artist with work in watercolor and acrylics, Margrit is an art teacher.
Mrs. Mason gifted this painting to Paul G. Mathew MD, DNBPAS, FAAN, FAHS, her migraine doctor, and our esteemed Co-Chief Medical Editor. The painting hangs in his office with this inscription he penned specifically for this painting:
“Headaches are like boats in the sea. They come in many shapes and sizes. They respond to crashing waves differently, whether these waves are in the form of stress, sleeplessness, or starvation. With the guidance of the right physician, the stormy seas of headache can be navigated to the tranquil waters of pain freedom.”
