Viz.ai's Intracerebral Hemorrhage Algorithm Gains FDA Clearance

02/15/2024

Viz.ai has announced the FDA 510(k) clearance of its new algorithm for intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) detection and care coordination, called Viz ICH Plus.

The software is intended to automate identification, labeling, and qualifying the volume of segmentable brain structures on non-contrast CT and is indicated for analyzing intracranial hyperdensities, lateral ventricles, and midline shift, as well as providing volume measurements for brain bleeds, the company said.

“The ability and mobility to obtain accurate and quantifiable measurements of intracerebral hemorrhages through Viz ICH Plus significantly enhances our decision-making process,” commented Peter Kan, MD, MPH, FRCSC, FAANS, in the announcement. “This technology, which marries precision with AI, is poised to transform how we approach intracerebral hemorrhage cases.” Dr. Kan is Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

Viz.ai cites that ICH accounts for up to 15% of all strokes, with high rates of associated morbidity and mortality.
