UCSF Professor Bruce Ovbiagele, MD Recognized with Scientific Breakthrough Award at AAN 2024
This year, the American Brain Foundation (ABF) awarded Bruce Ovbiagele, MD, MAS, FAAN the annual Scientific Breakthrough Award. Dr Ovbiagele, a Professor of Neurology at University of California (UC) San Francisco and Associate Dean of the San Francisco Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare System, was honored for his work that has improved stroke outcomes for underserved communities, specifically through his focus on health equity and inclusion. Dr. Ovbiagele received the award at the ABF’s annual Commitment to Cures gala on April 13, which took place at the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) 2024 Annual Meeting.
Dr. Ovbiagele is recognized for his prolific publication history, defined by innovations in study design, methodology, as well as the development of new stroke prevention programs for disadvantaged populations. He has held membership in the AAN since 1998 and is currently serving on the Academy’s Board of Directors until 2025. Additionally, Dr. Ovbiagele participated in the 2008 “Neurology on the Hill,” an annual event in which AAN members meet with federal lawmakers in Washington, DC to advocate for policy that benefits neurologic healthcare in the United States.
