HealthPartners Neuroscience Center (St. Paul, MN) has announced they will be conducting the first study of the Muscle2Mind exercise program for patients with Alzheimer’s dementia. The program utilizes a digital platform that assesses the feasibility of patients to participate in supervised physical exercise.
In this 3-month program 5 pairs of participants with mild cognitive impairment or early Alzheimer’s disease and their care partners will use a pilot digital platform (IncludeHealth; Cincinnati, OH) under the supervision of an exercise physiologist. Capturing data through the platform and assessing feasibility of patients for regular exercise will guide development of research protocols.
A future study goal is to evaluate measurable outcomes to assess the effectiveness of exercise for patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
“We are creating a platform that can help build a vast dataset which can be used for research projects aimed at improving preventative care and treatment for patients with neurological disorders,” said Ryan Eder, founder of IncludeHealth. “We anticipate the opportunity to improve the lives of dementia patients and patients with other neurological conditions through exercise-as-medicine.”
