AHS Celebrates Award Winners at 66th Annual Scientific Meeting

Twenty-four individuals who have contributed to the field of headache and migraine were recognized by the American Headache Society (AHS) at the 66th Annual Scientific Meeting held in San Diego, CA. Awards were given in a variety of categories to acknowledge outstanding publications, research, and service.

One of the highest honors, the Lifetime Achievement Award was given to the following clinician in recognition of “sustained and substantial service” over their career:

-Donald B. Penzien, PhD, FAHS, Wake Forest School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, NC

The recipient of the Distinguished Service Award was 

-Stewart J. Tepper, MD, FAHS, The New England Institute for Neurology and Headache, Stamford, CT

The Frontiers in Headache Research Scholarship Award was presented to the following:

-Nan Cheng, MD, Mayo Clinic Arizona, Scottsdale, AZ

-Paul Gong, MD, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, OH

-Edina Szabo, PhD, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA

Above and Beyond Award recipients honored for their service include

-Elizabeth Seng, PhD, FAHS, Yeshiva University/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY

-Niushen Zhang, MD, FAHS, Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA

In terms of Lecture Awards, these individuals were honored

Harold G. Wolff Lecture Award

-Chia-Chun Chiang, MD, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN

Seymour Solomon Lecture Award

-Kathleen Digre, MD, FAHS, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT

John R. Graham Lecture Award

-Andrew C. Charles, MD, FAHS, University of California, Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA

The Headache Basic Science prize was given to 

-Sajedeh Eftekhari, PhD, Danish Headache Center/Glostrup Research Institute, Glostrup, Denmark

The Early Career Lecture Award was granted to 

-Carlyn Patterson Gentile, MD, PhD, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA

Members of the AHS voted for the best article appearing in the journal Headache and recognized the following coauthors for the Member's Choice Award:
