About the Cover Artist: Visions Before Bed by Kendra Zager
Kendra Zager is an LA-based artist who works with oil and acrylic paint. She began painting as a child as a form of therapy and attended art classes while majoring in advertising at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her work has been showcased at Los Angeles art shows Chocolate and Art and Pancakes and Booze Art Show.
Kendra suffered five traumatic head injuries, which left her with temporary numbness in the right arm, migraines, and chronic neck and back pain. She turned to western medicine, eastern practices, and holistic practitioners to combat the chronic pain. As well, for more than 10 years, she was treated with pharmaceuticals for depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PMDD, and insomnia. To illuminate these invisible disabilities, Kendra uses visual art to depict undetectable medical conditions. The cover image, Visions Before Bed, showcases one of her early visions after beginning meditation to neutralize her chronic pain.
After enduring a traumatic head injury in 2019, Kendra developed post-concussion syndrome. To cope with migraines, she spent many days in bed meditating in a dark room and became skilled at astral projection. She also found relief in the form of Botox.
After working through the chronic pain and weaning off of oral medication, Kendra now paints her nonvisual experiences and astral projections. The painting featured here, Embrace the Elements 2022, showcases some of the nervous system regulation techniques she’s embodying—connecting with nature, conscious breathing, finding stillness through visualization, and meditation.
In addition to art, Kendra works in digital marketing, models on social media, and is a certified practicing quantum healing hypnotist wherein she guides people through past life regressions.
