Global Healthy Living Foundation Launches Migraine Podcast--Talking Head Pain

06/18/2021

The Global Healthy Living Foundation (GHLF) has launched a new podcast for Migraine and Headache Awareness Month--June 2021--that will be useful for people living with migraine, their caregivers, and health care teams for months to come. The podcast, Talking Head Pain,  is hosted by Joseph Coe, MPA, Director, Education and Digital Strategy of GHLF, who lives with migraine and features conversations with others who are living with this sometimes debilitating condition. Conversations emphasize healthy coping skills, tasks of daily living, and appropriate medical management.

Also featured, is Peter McAllister MD, Co-Founder & Chief Medical Officer of the New England Center for Neurology and Headache. Dr. McAllister is who is an  award-winning medical writer and frequent contributor to Practical Neurology  as the editor of our Headache Horizons column. For the Talking Head Pain podcast, he provides expert medical perspectives on migraine and encourages listeners to work closely with their neurologist or, ideally, headache specialist to development a management plan for the migraine.

Episodes feature the issues of Men and Migraine, featuring a retired first responder and focusing on overcoming barriers to seeking treatment; Migraine on the Job; Migraine and Millenials; Migraine and Marriage, including issues for caregivers; and Migraine and Marginalization.

Despite myriad new treatments for migraine, almost half of people with the condition do not seek medical care, often for fear that their concerns will go unheard or untreated. In this context, patient education resources, especially those that feature the real-life experiences of every day people dealing with the conditions have great value. The podcast home page features additional useful resources including free, downloadable patient and caregiver guidelines, another audio series that explains the basics of migraine, and other educational articles.

GHLF is a non-profit advocacy organization, based in New York, with the mission to improve the quality of life for people with chronic illness. The GHLF accomplishes its mission by advocating for improved access to care and by educating the community about the importance of diagnosis, early and innovative medical intervention, long-term lifestyle improvement, and therapeutic compliance.
