Commercial Launch of Sensing Technology for Closed-Loop Spinal Cord Stimulation System Announced
Saluda Medical (Minneapolis, MN) has announced the full commercial launch of EVA Sensing Technology to support the treatment of people with chronic pain conditions. The device is designed to be used with the company’s closed-loop spinal cord stimulation system—the Evoke SmartLoop System (Saluda Medical, Minneapolis, MN)—to automatically adjust and improve treatment based on the scanning and analysis of nerves in the patient’s back.
The Evoke SmartLoop System with EVA functions by continuously sensing and measuring a patient's spinal cord response—specifically, evoked compound action potentials (ECAPs)—to adjust stimulation in real time. According to Saluda Medical, this can allow clinicians to maintain a consistent therapy level without the need for frequent manual adjustments—a feature that sets closed-loop SCS devices like the Evoke SmartLoop System with EVA apart from open-loop devices. In an economic analysis published in 2023, the Evoke SmartLoop System was shown to be more cost-effective than open-loop SCS in the treatment of chronic back and leg pain.
